Your first Beyblade X tournament is equal parts exciting and nerve-wracking. The last thing you want is to show up underprepared with the wrong gear, illegal combos, or a bey that falls apart in round one.
This checklist covers everything: what to pack, how to build your deck, the rules you need to know, and the day-of habits that separate prepared players from scrambling ones.
What to Bring: The Tournament Bag Checklist
Beys & Combos
- At least 3–5 competitive beys (more options = more flexibility between rounds) as most tournaments will allow you to swap beys between rounds
- Pre-assembled and tested combos. You can test before the tournament during the free play time, but be careful as some players may use that knowledge to their advantage if they go against you
- Spare Bits and Blades if you have them (parts can break mid-event)
Launcher Setup
- Your primary launcher, make sure to fully test it and that it's not grinding or locking up when you rip
- Slip Grip a consistent grip upgrade for ripcords is one of the biggest competitive advantages you can bring; launch power and repeatability matter in a tournament setting
- Spare string launcher if you use a string launcher. I've seen some players go through 1 or 2 during a single tournament
Storage & Organization
- Slam Shell Deck Box — keeps your beys protected, organized, and easy to access between matches; fumbling through a bag mid-tournament costs you time and focus
- Separate bag or case for your spare parts
Other Essentials
- Read over and understand the current WBO ruleset (or ruleset being used in the tournament you are attending, ex: BBAX or others)
- Water and snacks (some tournaments run long)
- Phone charger/power bank for looking up rulings or recording matches
Deck-Building Strategy Basics
You don't need the rarest beys to build your deck. You need the right beys for your play-style and the meta at your event. I've seen new players make top 8 using the Gear Rush bit before! It all depends on how YOU play.
- Attack deck: High-speed beys that aim for knockouts. High risk, high reward. Best for aggressive players.
- Stamina deck: Outlast your opponent. Effective against attack types but vulnerable to defense.
- Defense deck: Absorb hits and survive. Consistent but can struggle to score knockouts.
- Balance deck: Versatile across matchups. Good for beginners who don't know the local meta yet.
Tips:
- Test every combo at home before the event. Understand how each one behaves when you launch it and how you should launch it. Watch some YouTube/TikTok videos on launch techniques
- Bring at least one counter-pick for common attack types you expect to face
Rules to Know Before You Go
Showing up without knowing the rules is the fastest way to get rattled. Key WBO Beyblade X rules to review:
- Legal parts only: all Bits, Ratchets, and Blades must be official, unmodified Beyblade X components
- Launcher rules: check which launchers are tournament-legal; some modified grips may not be allowed (verify your Slip Grip setup is compliant)
- Scoring: Burst Finish (2 pts), Over Finish (1 pt), Survivor Finish (1 pt), Xtreme Finish (2 pts)
- Match format: typically best of 3 first to 4 points; confirm with your TO (Tournament Organizer)
- Stadium rules: official Takara Tomy BX-10 stadiums only; bring your own if the venue doesn't provide them

Day-Of Tips
- Arrive early: get your registration done, scope the venue, and warm up your launch
- Watch other matches: you'll learn the local meta fast by observing before your first round
- Track your results: note which combos won and lost, and why; adjust between rounds
- Stay loose: tournament nerves affect launch consistency; breathe, reset, focus on technique
- Be a good sport: every Beyblade community is welcoming and tight-knit; how you carry yourself matters, and everyone is also there to help you
