Beyblade X is the fastest, most competitive generation of Beyblade yet and if you're just getting into it, the options can feel pretty overwhelming for new players. Launchers, beys, deck boxes, grip upgrades... where do you even start?
This guide cuts through the noise. We'll tell you exactly what you need to buy to get started, what you can skip for now, and how to set yourself up for your first battle (or your first tournament).
What Is Beyblade X — And How Is It Different?
Beyblade X launched in 2023 and introduced the X Line — the X rail inside the stadium that lets beys accelerate to extreme speeds mid-battle. It's a genuine game-changer compared to Burst or Metal Fusion, and it's why the competitive scene has exploded.
Key differences from older generations:
- X Line mechanic creates burst-speed moments that can flip a match instantly
- New blade system — Bit, Ratchet, and Blade components replace the old layer system
- Faster, more aggressive gameplay overall
- Older beys and stadiums are not compatible — you can only use Beyblade X products and gear
The Essential Starter Kit
You only need three things to start playing Beyblade X:
1. Three Beyblade X Beys
You will need to pick up at least one starter set or and two or three booster beys. Starter sets usually include a launcher, which saves you money early on. Look for beys with balanced or attack types to learn the fundamentals. The easiest way to get these is going to your local Target or Walmart and checking the toy section next to the action figures. Some good beys to pickup to start are, Soar Phoenix, Cobalt Dragoon, Stirling Wolf, Samurai Saber, and Cerberus Flame. This will give you a good variety and a competitive start!
Once you have at least three beys, you have created your first Beyblade Deck! This is what you will want to use in both casual and competitive play.
2. A Launcher
Most starter sets include a basic string or ripcord launcher. It works fine to learn with. As you improve, upgrading your grip becomes one of the highest-impact changes you can make (more on that below). With the Soar Phoenix and Samurai Saber packs, these come with two different style of launchers. My Personal favorite is the Samurai Saber as it was my go to launcher when I first started and what I used when I won the 2024 Las Vegas Regional.
3. A Way to Store and Carry Your Beys
This one gets overlooked by beginners and regretted fast. Beys are precision-engineered, tossing them loose in a bag causes chips, scratches, and misalignment that affects performance. A proper deck box protects your investment from day one.

Aside from a deck box you will want to get a storage container for all the beys you are not using in your deck. You can find these almost every where! Target, Walmart, Michael's, Harbor Freight, etc. A lot of players will get tackle boxes to carry them in, but it depends on your collection and how you want to carry everything.
What NOT to Waste Money On (As a Beginner)
- Rare or limited beys — performance matters more than rarity when you're learning. There's a lot of high value beys out there and they are always fun to collect, but when you are starting off, it's best to get the basics down and go from there.
- Multiple launchers right away — master one before experimenting. There will be a lot of people that tell you to use this or that launcher. But it really come down to preference and how well you handle it. Start with one and play a few games and see how you like it. Then try the other style of launcher and repeat the process. My personal favorite is the Ripcord launchers.
- Random storage solutions — a pencil case or zip-lock bag will damage your beys; get a real deck box early on and a storage case like the ones mentioned above.
